The Merchandising Manager will lead and develop a team of Buyers and Import Specialists responsible for sourcing and purchasing a wide range of retail products—including health, beauty, supplements, food items, and Japanese-origin goods. This role plays a key part in building Matsumoto Kiyoshi’s product lineup in Malaysia from the ground up, aligning with the brand’s high standards, Japanese retail excellence, and local customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:
・Build a product assortment that reflects the trusted Matsumoto Kiyoshi brand, focusing on Japanese beauty, health, and lifestyle products
・Supervise and train Buyers and Import Specialists, ensuring efficient procurement, supplier negotiation, and product selection
・Source and introduce trend-driven Japanese products in coordination with Japan HQ and regional suppliers
・Develop merchandising strategies that target middle-income Malaysian consumers and Singaporean shoppers, especially in Johor
・Lead visual merchandising efforts based on Japanese retail standards to ensure in-store product presentation meets brand expectations
・Differentiate Matsumoto Kiyoshi from competitors such as Don Don Donki, Watsons, and Guardian through exclusive SKUs, pricing strategies, and category focus
・Monitor sales performance, stock levels, and market trends to optimize procurement planning and product rotation
・Ensure full compliance with Malaysian regulations for imported cosmetics, health supplements, and food items
・Support the company’s 5-year growth plan of expanding to 25 retail stores, ensuring procurement scalability and supply chain readiness
・Plan and oversee team travel for supplier visits, trade shows, and coordination trips to Japan or regional vendors

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCERequired

✓ At least 8 years of experience in purchasing, including 5 years in a managerial role
✓ Who can business trip to Johor Bahru
✓ Solid background in the cosmetics industry, with a focus on makeup product purchasing
✓ Extensive knowledge of both local and international cosmetic brands and current beauty trends
✓ Strong skills in supplier negotiation and contract management
✓ Proven experience in demand forecasting, inventory control, and product planning
✓ Business-level English communication skills
✓ Proficiency in Excel and standard purchasing/inventory management systems
✓ Demonstrated ability in team leadership and staff development
✓ Familiarity with the Malaysian retail or supply chain environment
✓ Japanese language skills for internal communication
✓ Experience working with product development and marketing teams
✓ Exposure to trade shows and international brand sourcing
